Instabilities and sensitivities in a flow over a rotationally flexible cylinder with a rigid splitter plate

This paper investigates the origin of flow-induced instabilities and their sensitivities in a flow over rotationally flexible circular cylinder with rigid splitter plate. A linear stability sensitivity problem is formulated Eulerian frame by considering geometric nonlinearity arising from rotational motion which not present stationary or purely translating methodology. needs careful consistent treatment linearised particularly when reference adopted this study that so widely considered. Two types fluid–structure interaction are found. The first type symmetry breaking mode, was well reported previous studies. instability exhibits strong correlation length recirculation zone. detailed analysis mode its reveals importance near tip region plate for generation control mode. second an oscillatory torsional flapping has been reported. typically emerges sufficiently long. Unlike it closely correlated however also crucial role played instability. Finally, found many physical features reminiscent those (or flutter instability) observed flag, suggesting these share same origin.
